Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Arts open

VINCENNES — The Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy opened its newest expansion, featuring a new exhibit to the public after being under construction for about a year on Tuesday.

The Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Arts features many paintings and works created by Skelton himself. Museum Director, Anne Pratt, said the new addition is also flexible in how it is utilized, meaning it can be used as a space to host events. It features a small stage, a sound system and moveable interior walls.

Lothian Skelton, the third wife and widow of Red Skelton, was married to him during the highlight of his painting career. She donated about $4 million to Vincennes University to create the new space.

The Museum welcomes the new addition after only having the capacity of showing about seven paintings at a time in the current space. Pratt said that there were about 500 different paintings in the collection alone.
